LilyPad Accelerometer - ADXL335

Give your e-textile projects the ability to detect movement and orientation. The LilyPad Accelerometer is a three-axis motion sensor based on Analog Devices' ADXL335 MEMS accelerometer. Whether you want to measure joint movement in a smart garment, detect inclination, or sense vibration, this board provides a simple analog solution for your wearable electronics.

The ADXL335 outputs a distinct 0V to 3V analog signal for the X, Y, and Z axes. While you can easily use these raw signals for basic motion sensing, calculating a true tilt angle requires converting the analog voltage to a gravity measurement and applying some basic trigonometry.

Sewable E-Textile Design

LilyPad is a wearable e-textile technology developed by Leah Buechley and cooperatively designed by Leah and SparkFun. To ensure these components integrate seamlessly into your wardrobe (no pun intended), LilyPad relies on some specific hardware choices:

• Sewable Tabs: The LilyPad Accelerometer features five large conductive connection pads that let you stitch it directly into fabric with conductive thread.
• Low-Profile Build: Measuring just 20mm in outer diameter on a thin 0.8mm PCB, this board lays perfectly flat against your garments.
• Washable Hardware: Built to withstand real-world use, your finished clothing can be washed without damaging the electronics.

Wiring this analog accelerometer to your wearable project gives you a straightforward way to track physical activity, monitor posture, or create costumes that react dynamically to your motion.

Does not include:

• Conductive Thread
• Sewing Needles
