DAGU - Wild Thumper 6WD Black w/ Wheel Encoders (75:1 Gearboxes). This is easily the most rugged and beefy robot chassis in its price range. The Wild Thumper 6-Wheel platform is the best of both worlds: It takes almost no time to go from un-boxing to rolling chassis, but it's also ready to be expanded on and makes great base for an Advanced Robot.
This is easily the most rugged and beefy robot chassis in its price range. The
Wild Thumper 6-Wheel platform is the best of both worlds: It takes almost no
time to go from un-boxing to rolling chassis, but it's also ready to be expanded
on and makes great base for an Advanced Robot.
The Kit now includes 2x Magnetic Quadrature Wheel Encoders that can be
optionally mounted. These can be used to perform accurate speed control,
essential in advanced Robotics application.
The 6WD chassis has wicked spiked 120mm diameter wheels and an anodized aluminium chassis made from 2mm thick plate.
Each of the six motors are mounted on independent suspension and outfitted with
75:1 steel gearboxes.
Please note: the WildTumper Arduino DC Motor Controller (the circuit board
shown above) is
separately available. You may also use your own controller as well to drive this
robot.
The chassis has 4mm diameter holes punched every 10mm and there is plenty of
room interior to the chassis for batteries, drivers and other support hardware:
two chassis segments between the wheels have been designed to hold 7.2V sub C
battery packs (not included) as used in many RC cars. A total of 4x 7.2V battery
packs can be fitted if necessary.
This is a differential drive platform, meaning that a turn in
accomplished by simply driving one side faster or slower than the other, or
turning the two sides in opposite directions. Because the "pivot point" of
this turn is essentially made up of the opposing three tires a gradual turn
will require less power than a sharp one and the more power you can source,
the more manoeuvrable your platform will be.
To control the Wild Thumper, DAGU has created a souped-up 16Amp Arduino DC Motor Controller
(more details here). If you
wish to add this board to your purchase please select the option in the end of
this page.
