This waterproof DS18B20 temperature probe brings digital temperature sensing to water-monitoring, greenhouse and humid-environment projects. A stainless steel sensing tube and 95cm cable allow the probe to be positioned away from the controller, while 1-Wire communication uses one digital data pin. The sensor offers selectable 9–12-bit resolution and specified ±0.5°C accuracy from -10°C to +85°C. Multiple probes can share a data line, making this sensor a practical option for comparing temperatures at several locations. This version includes the probe with bare wires only; a terminal adapter is not included, and the documented connection requires a 4.7k pull-up resistor.
Stainless Steel Probe for Wet and Humid Projects
This waterproof temperature sensor houses the sensing element in a stainless steel tube measuring 6mm in diameter and 35mm long. The supplied cable provides reach for positioning the probe in a project while keeping the controller connection elsewhere. The DS18B20 temperature range is -55°C to 125°C, but the included PVC-jacketed cable should remain below 100°C. This distinction matters when selecting an installation: the sensor chip's range does not establish the cable's high-temperature capability.
Digital Readings with Selectable Resolution
This DS18B20 probe provides digital temperature measurements without requiring a separate analog-to-digital converter. Selectable 9–12-bit resolution allows the firmware to choose the desired measurement granularity, while the specified ±0.5°C accuracy applies from -10°C to +85°C. A temperature-limit alarm function supports software queries for sensors outside programmed limits. The 3.0V to 5.5V power/data specification supports common project supplies, with the 1-Wire data pull-up voltage matched to the controller's input requirements.
Multiple Temperature Points on One Data Pin
Each DS18B20 sensor has a unique 64-bit ID that allows a controller to address individual probes sharing the same 1-Wire bus. This supports multi-point temperature projects without assigning a separate data pin to every probe. The ID identifies a sensor on the bus and should not be treated as proof of authenticity. For an Arduino build, use the documented 1-Wire library and wiring, including the required pull-up resistor and the correct wire-color mapping.
Note: This sensor includes the probe with bare wires only. For a solderless connection with a pluggable terminal adapter, please check the Gravity: Waterproof DS18B20 Sensor Kit.
Each DS18B20 temperature sensor has a unique silicon serial number, useful for verifying its authenticity and enabling the connection of multiple sensors on a single 1-Wire bus. This feature facilitates the installation of temperature sensors in various locations for applications like indoor temperature monitoring, smart home integration, object temperature detection, greenhouse farming, and more.
(Note: Terminal adapter not included. Please solder a 4.7k resistor between VCC and Data for usage, or choose the Gravity Kit version for plug-and-play.)
